ITIL Foundation Course gets a Make-Over
The ITIL v3 Foundation Course has been the subject of much criticism.
- The focus on the core principles had been lost due to the breadth of the subject matter in v3.
- The focus on process was not as strong as in the v2 equivalent
- Too much time was spent on the Service Lifecycle approach adopted in ITIL v3 - often confusing relative beginners fairly new to IT.
Well, that has all now been addressed. In late 2008 a formal review took place with the following objectives;
- To poll a wide range of stakeholders in the ITIL training community to ensure a broad range of feedback was received on the suitability of the current syllabus to meet the requirements of their students.
- To poll a wide range of Students and their sponsors as to whether the current syllabus met their operational objectives in terms of scope and depth of topics covered.
- To analyse all feedback and if necessary produce recommendations for syllabus changes to be considered by the ITIL Qualifications Board (QB)
The results of the polls were analyised and discussed by a project team made up of Representatives of each of the Examination Institutes and elected representatives of ATOs. The changes were subsequently approved by the Qualifications Board in November 2008 and the revised syllabus and Foundation Course went live on May 1st 2009. Sysop has been delivering the new, much improved course since then.
