What is ISO20k?

ISO/IEC 20000 is an international IT standard that allows companies to demonstrate excellence and prove best practice in IT service management. The standard ensures companies can achieve evidence-based benchmarks to continuously improve their delivery of IT services. ISO/IEC 20000 was released in 2005 based on the IT infrastructure library (ITIL®) best practice framework, and updated in 2011.

The adoption of ISO/IEC 20000 has grown quite rapidly in the international arena of IT service providers and it has become a competitive differentiator for delivery of IT services.

Who owns the standard?

The APM Group Ltd owns and operates the ISO/IEC 20000 Organizational Certification Scheme. The scheme allows organizations to demonstrate the quality of their IT processes through certification against the standard.

We start by examining the current maturity of your service management processes. This doesn’t need to be a ‘laboursome’ task. Our consultants are adept at asking questions and collating evidence to help formulate an assessment of the maturity of your processes. We then turn that into an action pan; a roadmap of what needs to be done with regards to people, process and technology in order to allow you to improve your processes sufficiently to apply for a pre-assessment.

We can then help you choose an appropriate Registered Certification Body (RCB)* and hand hold you through the preliminary assessment picking up and helping you to correct any observations prior to the full assessment process.

*An RCB is an organisation register as to assess and certify organizations meeting the requirements of ISO/IEC 20000, which in turn gives credibility to the certification.
